Predicting every 2025 Week One Starting QB in One Sentence or Less
It's, somehow, that time of year again.
A new batch of quarterbacks is entering the annual carousel. While it might not be the most enticing group since I started this series a number of years back, there are still some difference makers. Yes, you have your headliners of Sam Darnold, Matt Stafford, and Aaron Rodgers, but other signal callers will be headed to new destinations within the next few days. This also doesn't factor in the upcoming draft, where the two-headed monster of Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders will be hearing their names called, knowing where they will be spending the start of their NFL careers.
I'm not going to say that I'm 100% confident where each quarterback will end up. I never am. With that said, like a jigsaw puzzle, I'm going to try and piece where each one decides to call home. Last year went rather well for me, so let's see if I can top that with the 2025 edition of Every Week One Starting Quarterback in One Sentence or Less.
AFC East:
Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen
Now he has a nice shiny MVP award on his mantle, could a Lombardi be next?
Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa
The concussions are starting to become a worry, but the Dolphins locked up Tagovailoa in July to be their long-term answer.
New England Patriots: Drake Maye
Maye's 2024 season was a success, so here's to hoping the rookie Pro Bowler can take another step forward in 2025.
New York Jets: Justin Fields
The first move of free agency, as Fields takes over the reins from Aaron Rodgers in East Rutherford.
AFC North:
Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson
Lamar was in the MVP conversation throughout much of last season and will continue to wow in Baltimore for years to come.
Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow
"Joe Cool" has been one of the AFCs best quarterbacks when healthy, but the bigger question is whether Tee Higgins will stay with him next season.
Cleveland Browns: Kirk Cousins
With Deshaun Watson's status up in the air, Cleveland buys low on Cousins and drafts Cam Ward at 2 to completely revamp their quarterback room.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Russell Wilson
The Steelers are one of the biggest players in this year's carousel, and after Fields leaves for the Jets, they bring back Russ.
AFC South:
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud
While he did take a step back last season, Stroud has continued to impress since he was drafted second overall.
Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Richardson
The Colts are rumored to be signing a veteran name to compete with Richardson, and they still may, but ultimately AR-15 starts Week One.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence
The new Jaguars management has shown their commitment to the former #1 pick throughout the offseason.
Tennessee Titans: Sam Darnold
The Titans win the Sam Darnold sweepstakes and draft their choice of Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter with the first overall pick.
AFC West:
Denver Broncos: Bo Nix
The Broncos were one of the NFL's most pleasant surprises last season, and Nix was a major reason why they ended their playoff drought.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes
Even though he did not win the Super Bowl in February, Mahomes has already solidified himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
Las Vegas Raiders: Matthew Stafford
The Raiders, after meeting with Stafford, swing a trade with the Rams to make him their new starter.
Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert
Herbert is a nice fit for Jim Harbaugh's offense, although I wonder if the Chargers bring in a wide receiver to help him out.
NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott
Prescott just signed a massive extension with the Boys so his future in Dallas is secure.
New York Giants: Jameis Winston
Winston has stated he wants to play for the Giants, and although they may draft a quarterback at 3, he gets the Week One nod.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts
The defending Super Bowl MVP had a very fun 2024 season to say the least.
Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels
A remarkable rookie season from Daniels has set up not only himself, but Washington as well for years to come.
NFC North:
Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams
The expectations are high for Williams in the Windy City, now with Ben Johnson as their head coach.
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff
Goff's Lions have been one of the NFL's best stories over the past few years.
Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love
Love just got rewarded with a four-year, $220 million extension last July to solidify himself as the Packers' next franchise quarterback.
Minnesota Vikings: J.J. McCarthy
They may sign a veteran in free agency, but McCarthy gets the reins of Minnesota from the start of the 2025 season.
NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons: Michael Penix Jr.
The Kirk Cousins experiment in Atlanta comes to a close as Penix gets a full season.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young
I was impressed with the last few games of Young's 2024 season, but can he take an even greater leap forward in 2025?
New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr
Mickey Loomis recently confirmed Carr as his starting quarterback in 2025.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield
Mayfield in Tampa has been a match made in heaven and he has an argument as the best signal caller in the NFC.
NFC West:
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray
I'm still a believer in Murray, and I'm very curious to see what Arizona does in free agency.
Los Angeles Rams: Aaron Rodgers
The Rams replace Stafford with Rodgers and convince Davante Adams to join Los Angeles as a Cooper Kupp replacement.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy
Purdy locks himself in for the 2025 season, but the question will be whether he gets the extension to remain in San Francisco.
Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith
Much like Purdy, Smith is set to be a free agent next season, but for now he remains the Seahawks' starter.
Another year of trying to predict where the quarterbacks will sign is complete. The journey to the big game starts soon, and free agency is only the beginning to your team's path to winning the Super Bowl. Enjoy the start of free agency all!
