Predicting Every 2024 Week One Starting QB in One Sentence or Less
2024 is a huge year for the signal caller. Not only are there several solid starters that may find new homes, but the 2024 NFL Draft is one of the best drafts for quarterbacks in quite some time. While draft season is still a few weeks away, the time for free agency is just around the corner. We're seven days away from the start of legal tampering, and that means the free agents are on the verge of making decisions that may not only change their careers, but change the league as well. Names like Chris Jones, Kirk Cousins, L'Jarius Sneed, Baker Mayfield, Christian Wilkins, and others are on the market.
When it comes to the Cousins and Mayfields of the group, 2024 could look a little different. It's been a yearly tradition to predict each team's quarterback for Week One about a week before free agency begins, and this year is no exception. Even though some picks are slam dunks, others are not as much. It's time to start the season off right with the 2024 edition of Every 2024 Week One Starting QB in One Sentence or Less.
AFC East:
Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen
The Bills got hot near the end of 2023, which resulted in Allen having one of the best years of his career.
Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa
A decision on Tua is coming soon in South Beach, but he gets the nod for the 2024 season regardless.
New England Patriots: Jacoby Brissett
Drake Maye is the pick at 3, but Brissett returns to Foxborough to start until the UNC product is ready.
New York Jets: Aaron Rodgers
Hopefully, Rodgers' season with Gang Green lasts more than four plays.
AFC North:
Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson
The two-time MVP got his payday from Baltimore, and the Ravens are well on their way towards Super Bowl contention.
Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow
Burrow should be cleared to return to action by May, and the Bengals need him back on the field to re-establish themselves as one of the AFC's juggernauts.
Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson
The fact that Joe Flacco looked better in Cleveland's offense is concerning, but the Browns didn't give Watson that contract to sit on the bench.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Russell Wilson
Even though the Steelers say they're sticking with Kenny Pickett, Chef Russ lands at Acrisure Stadium as the Steelers look to make the playoffs once again.
AFC South:
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud
Stroud has already turned into everything the Texans have hoped for and more.
Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Richardson
Before he went down with injuries last season, Richardson showed flashes of brilliance.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence
The 2021 #1 overall pick regressed slightly in 2023, and there might have to be some questions if that trend continues in 2024.
Tennessee Titans: Will Levis
Could Levis be the guy that leads the Titans through a potential rebuild?
AFC West:
Denver Broncos: Jameis Winston
The Broncos nab a quarterback in the draft, but Winston is brought in as a brief stopgap.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes
Now included with another Super Bowl ring!
Las Vegas Raiders: Aidan O'Connell
The Raiders could add to their QB room via draft or free agency, but O'Connell is starting out of the gate.
Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert
It's a huge year for Herbert, as he is looking to lead the Chargers back to the playoffs with Jim Harbaugh as his coach.
NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott
Last season was the best of Prescott's career, but the big question is whether he can lead them to the Super Bowl.
New York Giants: Daniel Jones
Jones will face competition for his starting job, whether it be from a veteran or from a rookie signal caller.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts
The Brotherly Shove lives on, as Hurts looks to get back to his first-half 2023 numbers.
Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels
Daniels, the second overall pick in the draft, starts right away to mark a new era in the nation's capital.
NFC North:
Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams
The Bears take the superstar from USC and he becomes the face of their franchise for years to come.
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff
Thanks to leading the Lions to the NFC Championship, the Detroit job is Goff's as long as he wants it.
Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love
It was a dream 2023 for Love, and the Packers hope he can build on that for 2024 and beyond.
Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins
Despite competition from Atlanta, I ultimately think Cousins returns to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for another year in the purple and gold.
NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons: Justin Fields
After missing out on Captain Kirk, the Falcons swing a trade with the Bears and land their new quarterback.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young
The Panthers traded a king's ransom to acquire Young, and hopefully his 2024 goes smoother than his rookie campaign.
New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr
New Orleans shelled out a hefty contract for Carr last free agency and he should be their guy for the next several years.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield
The two top free agents stay with their current teams, as the Buccaneers extend Mayfield after leading them to an NFC South crown in 2023.
NFC West:
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray
Following his return from injury, Kyler looked like his old self.
Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford
Stafford has some of the best receivers in the league in Hollywood, and the Rams look like they are on the rise once again.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy
Purdy is one of the best stories in the NFL, and after leading the Niners to a Super Bowl berth, there should be no reason anyone else should be under center.
Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith
This is a prove-it year for Geno, and it would not surprise me to see Seattle look elsewhere if he struggles in 2024.
Another quarterback carousel finished for another year. Are there any teams I whiffed on? Which ones did I hit right on the mark? As always, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Enjoy the wild roller coaster ride that is free agency, everyone!
